Beef Tacos

In the vibrant symphony of Mexican cuisine, Beef Tacos stand as both a timeless tradition and a dynamic expression of culinary evolution. As we draw the curtain on this flavorful journey, it's evident that these savory delights are not just a dish; they encapsulate the soul of Mexico, echoing the resilience, creativity, and cultural richness of the nation.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450g beef, thinly sliced (skirt steak or flank steak works well)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup 60ml beef broth
  • Corn tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro chopped (for garnish)
  • Lime wedges for serving

For Garnish:

  • Diced tomatoes
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Grated cheese cheddar or Mexican blend
  • Salsa store-bought or homemade

Instructions

Marinate the Beef:

  • In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with minced garlic, ground cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Allow the beef to marinate for at least 30 minutes to enhance the flavors.

Sauté the Onions:

  • Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they become translucent and slightly caramelized.

Cook the Beef:

  • Add the marinated beef to the skillet with the sautéed onions. Cook the beef over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until it's browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness.

Deglaze with Beef Broth:

  • Pour beef broth into the skillet to deglaze it, scraping up any flavorful bits from the bottom. Allow the broth to simmer and reduce, coating the beef with a rich and savory sauce.

Warm the Tortillas:

  • In a separate skillet or directly over a flame, warm the corn tortillas until they are pliable. Keep them warm in a clean kitchen towel.

Assemble the Tacos:

  • Spoon the cooked beef onto the warm tortillas. Top with your choice of garnishes, such as diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, grated cheese, fresh cilantro, and salsa.

Serve and Enjoy:

  • Serve the beef tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side. Encourage customization by letting everyone add their favorite toppings.

Optional: Char the Tortillas (for extra flavor):

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can briefly char the tortillas over an open flame or in a dry skillet until they develop a slight char.
