Prepare the fruit mixture
In a bowl, combine 1 cup raisins, 1 cup dried cranberries (or mixed dried fruit), and 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Set aside.
Mix the wet ingredients
In a large bowl, beat together 1/2 cup melted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 2 large eggs until smooth. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
Combine dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup flour, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg.
Add everything together
Add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Pour in 1/2 cup milk and stir until combined. Fold in the fruit mixture.
Prepare the pudding bowl
Lightly grease a heat-safe bowl or pudding mold. Pour the batter in and cover tightly with foil.
Steam the pudding
Place the bowl in a large pot. Add hot water halfway up the sides of the pudding bowl. Cover the pot and steam over low heat for 2 hours, checking occasionally to keep the water level consistent.
Cool and serve
Let the pudding cool for 10–15 minutes before turning it out of the bowl. Serve warm with whipped cream, custard, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
