  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions
 

  • In a large pot, heat the butter or olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes and broth. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream. Add salt, black pepper, and sugar if using.
  • Use an immersion blender to blend the soup until smooth, or carefully transfer to a blender in batches.
  • Stir in the chopped fresh basil and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve warm.
